glee

Can we have a round of applause for a realistic cast of high school students?
Thank you.
Say HI to Glee, the new television show produced by FOX A.K.A. the television show I can't wait to watch. Glee is about high school students who are basically social outcasts, trying to find their niche. And they do in the Glee Club. Sadly their principal can't wait to scrape it off (seeing as the last director of the club was too busy flirting with the members than doing his actual job). Enter Will, the (CUTE) Spanish teacher, a former Glee Club member. He decides to take over Glee Club and regain their former glory.
Obviously.. there's a tough road ahead.
With a talented cast (Lea Michele from Spring Awakening and Matthew Morrison from Hairspray) Glee is undoubtedly the most realistic portrayal of high school student on television. I am glad to see that the students are regular people (unlike the perfectly beautiful people on other shows *cough* Gossip Girl * cough* 90210* cough* AND don't walk around dropping brand names. Thank God someone sees sense in putting NORMAL people in NORMAL situations that the world can relate to.
I am gleeful to see stereotypes broken and honesty in fictional characters. Compared to Blair Waldorf or Naomi Clark, I can relate to these characters (and I'm not even American). Its nice to see characters that are searching for who they are because they don't fall into typical categories ie: jocks, cheerleaders, etc. I am happy to see a shows where the wheelchair ridden kid, Arty find somewhere to shine without watching a Hallmark production. (No offense to Hallmark, I love Hallmark). Its a different warmth you get watching Glee compared to the desperate need to buy hairbands after watching Gossip Girl.
I did not really enjoy watching High School Musical so me saying that Glee is great is a good thing. We don't really have Gabriella Montez's or Troy Bolton's in this show. HSM was directed at preteens. Here, we have Rachel Berry, a girl who wants to be welcomed by her peers and to be special, and Finn, a jock who wants to be play his sport while enduring his friends teasing because he enjoys singing. High School Musical- cheesyness+ real life+ angst - unrealistic plans to save the day= Glee.
Alright, alright.. there is an essence of a cliche since Rachel is going to fall for Finn (who's dating a cheerleader, Quinn. by the way, Quinn is the head of the Chastity club (you didn't see that coming right?)) but what is life without the little cliches? I think this show is going to be inspiration to teenagers and even teachers who have lost the love for what they do. Why? It's honest. It is not extravagant or pure-fairytale.
It's real.
So what's my verdict? WATCH IT. and tell me what you think. :)
